Character Study - Melinda Owen
1. Post 10 facts about your character.
2. Tag 5 other characters.
3. Post their names with the creators' usernames.
4. You can tag back!
1. Melinda is very afraid that she will lose everything she worked for. Thanks to Deacon, she is coming close to that and growing more desperate.
2. After learning of Damian's death Melinda went home, put her daughter to bed, went up to her bedroom and wept uncontrollably.
3. Although she would vehemently deny it, Melinda harbors a deep desire to find someone who will love her.
4. She rarely dates and breaks off relationships when they become too serious. This is why she refuses to date Luke Slater (she likes him too much to lose his friendship)
5. Until her divorce, Melinda had never had sex with anyone other than Damian. Her first time after that was when she worked for Charmaine. She has since lost count.
6. Her daughter believes that Melinda owns a restaurant. She still doesn't know what she is going to tell Thalia when she is old enough to understand what Melinda does.
7. On one occasion Melinda got a little tipsy and spent the night counting the freckles on Ryan McDermott's face over and over (she kept losing track) while Damian was passed out on the couch.
8. Melinda designed Chameleon after a brothel from the early 1900's with private dining rooms, no two alike, and bedrooms ranging from romantic fantasy to dungeon-like where her clients can role-play to their hearts' content...for a very steep price.
9. The only clients Melinda services are powerful and well connected. They pay a handsome price to indulge in their fantasies with Melinda.
10. For all her confidence and strength Melinda is still very vulnerable. She fiercely guards her heart.

Oh these shots are to die for. So beautiful!
ReplyDelete#3, I think everyone is looking for that, all the time.
#6, is going to be so hard figure out.
# 7, I would've lost count on purpose just to start over.
#10, You portray that so perfectly with her. Very hard to do.
I am crying...oh Gayl such beautiful stunning perfect illustrations of a gorgeous, strong woman...
ReplyDelete#3: everyone wants that, except people who have had it and gone somewhere else
#6: Thalia still thinks her mother owns a restaurant. You know, maybe Eric Stanfield would be a good match for her.
#7: uhh...and Ryan didn't wake up? I could get into counting Ryan's freckles...think they go past his nose though
#10 Yes she does. I think Ryan holds some of her heart. And he's not a man who will turn away from that.
Of all the characters you have ever created, Melinda is the one who haunts me.
Muzegoddess thanks so much! I can't believe I put myself through what I did to take shots for this.
ReplyDeleteDigging into Mel's character, trying not to reveal too much and yet make it insightful...this was much harder than it should have been. I don't know if that means I don't know her or was trying to be "perfect".
Beth...she haunts me as well...
ReplyDelete#6 with any luck she won't need to tell her.
#7 That still makes Melinda blush...considering what she has seen and done, not a small thing for her to blush.
omg- gorgeous gorgeous shots! They are so perfect for her. Brave and strong and yet being bare, she is so vulnerable. But they're also so sensuous. They're just perfect.
ReplyDeleteAll of these facts really help put her in perspective. She is a a very haunting yet amazingly beautiful character.
Lunar that is a perfect description of Melinda. She is very vulnerable despite her self-control and strength. It was hard to really capture who she is in 10 facts.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! Looking forward to yours!
#2. I think this struck me the deepest because after all he put her through she still had feelings for him. What those feelings were she only knows. This was really, really insightful Gayl.
ReplyDelete#5 and #6. Oh boy. That's a dilemma right there. Because one question is going to lead to A LOT more!
Phoenix, sometimes it is hard to stop loving even when that person is undeserving. Melinda's reasons for weeping go pretty deep.
ReplyDelete#5 & 6 will be tough. Again, with luck she might not need to explain. But even Melinda has a hard time with the idea of giving up that place. She put a lot of herself into it. That place is her to an extent.
Wow. Poor girl :( #2 doesn't surprise me, but it's heartbreaking nonetheless. #7 is quite telling as well.
ReplyDeleteI love this meme. I feel like I know all these characters on a whole different level now.
I liked it too. It is always good to look deeper into characters once in awhile.
